Houghton Road Bridge over UPRR

Structural Design Tucson, Pima County, Arizona

Structural Grace assisted in creating the Design Concept Report and prepared the Structure Selection Report for the replacement bridge over the UPRR as part of the original project limits from Valencia to I-10. We presented structure concepts and the recommended structure type for the new bridge that will carry Houghton Road over the UPRR. The UPRR approved the conceptual design. Following this effort, Structural Grace was the prime consultant for the final design of the replacement of the Houghton Road bridge over the UPRR, designing the three-span pre-cast AASHTO Girder bridge and overseeing the subconsultants work associated with the completion of the Environmental Assessment, Design Concept Report, and final roadway geometric design.

Valentine Road Bridge

Structural Design Dudleyville, Pinal County, Arizona

SGI performed a load rating analysis of the 60-year-old wooden Valentine Road Bridge, prepared a bridge alternative cost analysis, and provided PS&E documents for superstructure replacement. After determining an existing load rating of five tons, SGI evaluated bridge replacement alternatives considering the scour, environmental impacts, traffic impacts, schedule, and overall cost for three alternatives: multi-cell precast box culvert, conspan structure with wingwalls, and superstructure replacement. Ultimately, the superstructure was replaced with a new precast pre-stressed voided slab superstructure utilizing the innovative Geosynthetic Reinforced Soil-Integrated Bridge System (GRS-IBS) for the substructure. The existing bridge was removed and replaced in 30 days.
